About Us

Our philosophy

The future belongs to people who will be able to marry high creativity and imagination with a hunger for knowledge and learning.

We believe that the best way of developing these in young children is a combination of free and structured play, in beautiful and engaging preschool learning environments, and a program that constantly develops their minds across multiple areas.

We know that children develop at different rates across different areas. At Safari Kid international kindergartens, we ensure that a child is advancing at their pace and level, not that of the group.

We also believe that play is the best way to learn – even if you’re learning advanced concepts in languages or math.

That’s why our play-based nursery approach ensures that each Safari Kid is at least one (if not two) grade levels ahead of their peers when they leave us for primary school.

Our curriculum

We’ve created THE early childhood program for the 21st century. Classical approaches like Montessori and Reggio Emilia go back at least half a century, and Eastern approaches even further. We’ve combined best practices from these with insights from newer research into early brain development.

We’ve taken the Project Based Learning approach to early childhood education for the first time, and our development and assessment framework is based on, among other things, Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences, the British Early Years Foundation Stage and our own research.

Art, Drama, STEAM (including coding and robotics) and Music are integrated at the core. Our preschool program is based not on the age of the child, but at their pace of learning in different areas. Not all children like to play with the same toys – each child is different. We customize our approach based on the child’s preferred style of learning. That’s what makes us so effective. And it makes Safari Kids stand out as natural leaders in a group, creative problem solvers and generally a grade or two ahead of their peers.

    Language arts

The world of books and stories is introduced very early, in all the languages that we offer. Through stages, we improve reading and language skills step by step, so that by the time children are about four, they’re reading at levels generally thought to be suitable for five or six-year-olds.

    Writing

Writing skills are developed initially through a lot of tactile play, art, manipulating natural materials and progress through more traditional methods. Our project-based learning approach integrates writing into the program

    Mathematics

A facility with numbers and love for math is developed through games – construction, water play, role play and much else, through all levels. All fun and games, but our four-year-olds can happily do simple addition and subtraction, in addition to counting in 5s and 10s – things required for much older kids!

    Self expression

Our Art and Music programs encourage children to be themselves and express their ideas via different media and materials. Each school has an Art Studio, and music facilities and they are integrated into the core part of our program.

    Science and technology

Through experimentation, questioning, and interacting with the environment, children are exposed to the natural world and some of the scientific principles that underpin it. Our strong technology program introduces algorithmic thinking, coding, use of technology and much else.

    Public speaking and confidence

It’s really about the ability to stand up in front of other children and talk about something – a favourite toy, or what they did on vacation. We help kids develop their confidence, and we also have our drama program, which is used for our two annual performances.

    Logic and reasoning

Science, math, problem solving and much else depends on developing a strong ability to reason, and an understanding of logic. Through games, role play, stories and thought experiments, we enhance children’s abilities to think logically and solve problems.

    Understanding of the world

Our theme based program introduces children to different aspects of the world around them every day, giving them a growing appreciation and understanding of themselves, their environment and the people around them.

Fundamental areas

The fundamental areas are core to early childhood and form the basis for development in the specific areas. All aspects of the program are guided by the development goals of the fundamental areas at every age.
  • Creativity and imagination

Enhancing creativity and inciting imagination is a core building block for every aspect of our curriculum. We place this as a fundamental area of development – perhaps no other pedagogy does this. This ensures that children are encouraged to use their natural curiosity and imagination in creative problem solving, the arts, languages, and most other specific areas.

  • Physical development

Our proprietary Physical Development program focusses on structured exercises using specific equipment (think baby gym!) for the development of different core muscle groups, in addition to fine and gross motor skills. Several of our schools have integrated multisport activities run by professionals, and where possible, swimming (from toddlers on) is integrated into our program.

  • Cognition, language and communication

Development of language and communication skills begins much before a child begins to speak. The base for listening and understanding, and communicating continue to be built throughout the early years, and serves as a foundation for reading, writing, mathematics and much else.

  • Personal, social and emotional development

Happy children thrive the most. It’s ancient wisdom and totally true. Our schools ensure that children have the most loving and fun-filled experience, so their development can be accelerated.

Principles

Our principles are captured most simply through our 4C's - care, customisation, curriculum and communication. It's at the heart of everything we do in all our centres.

    Customisation

Each child is unique, has their own needs and develops at a different pace to others. An effective program must be customised to the development curve of the individual.

    Curriculum

A strong foundation is the scaffolding of the future. Effective early childhood education is a combination of play based, explorative learning and a structured approach, in an environment that is fully supportive of the needs of the individual child.

    Communication

Parents are partners in the education of their child. Effective and constant communication is key to the overall development of the child.

Our programs

At Safari Kid we aim for the all-around development of every child, every single day. Our preschool programs are designed to accomplish our specific developmental goals.

Our history

After personally experiencing a gap in the quality of early years education after having our own children, we set about creating an environment that would allow our children to thrive.

We believe that if our kids fall in love with learning, if they come up the curve quickly and have fun along the way then they will become life-long learners, with growth mindsets, well equipped to take on all of life’s challenges.

That is the Safari Kid mission.
